Dr. Whiddon, of Dallas Vein Specialists, earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and general surgery residency at Parlkand Memorial Hospital and affiliated hospitals of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Whiddon then served two years as a general surgeon in the United States Air Force. Following his military tour of duty he completed a residency in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at New York University Hospital, New York City.
After his formal surgical training Dr. Whiddon returned to the private practice of cardiac and thoracic surgery and to Dallas where he founded Texas Cardiothoracic Surgery Associates. During his more than 25 years of busy surgical practice he performed thousands of cardiac operations and over 100 cardiac transplant procedures. He performed the first successful cardiac transplantation procedure in Dallas and performed the cardiac transplantation in the first triple organ transplant ever performed in a human.


Dr. Whiddon has made numerous contributions to surgical scientific journals and textbooks. He has received recognition on the “Best Doctor” lists in Texas Monthly andD Magazine. He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a member of other professional associations. He holds board certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and successfully completed examinations for the first ever offered certification by the American Board of Phlebology (certificate # 012), now designated as American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM).
For the last several years Dr. Whiddon has focused his attention on venous disease with emphasis on the lower extremities. He has applied his experience, skills and knowledge to the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease and has strived to apply modern technology in this endeavor. His special interest is in aesthetic results, i.e. achieving the best possible appearance for his patients. His goal is to bring to his patients the highest level of professional care and to achieve the best possible outcome with minimal or no discomfort and rapid return to active life.
